ChooseNo UV lights, or one, or sometimes two UV lights for each furnace or air handler.

Ultraviolet (UV) Light Overview (the truth):

If you research UV Lights you will find a wide range of opinions. The condensed truth is, ultraviolet light can kill biologicals such as mold, but the effectiveness is dependent on the strength of the light source and the exposure time. UV light(s) installed in your furnace, air handler or duct system can kill living organisms that are 1) close enough to the light, 2) in the direct view of the light and 3) exposed long enough. Conversely, germs and molds that are not likely affected are those that are too far away, not in direct view of the light or pass by too quickly in the air stream.

 

 

Option: Primary Feature: Reasons to choose this option
Proactive indoor air quality (IAQ) measures instead of UV lights Most of our customers do not initially install a UV light unless they have had one in the past and noticed the benefits. UV Lights can be installed easily at a future date. Some of the options above like the dehumidifier and upgraded filter are good proactive measures so germs and mold are less likely to be present.
Single UV Light
Your first UV Light will be placed on the most convenient side of your air conditioner coil in an attempt to keep the surface of the coil as clean as new. If you have experienced the benefits from a UV light in the past, we are happy to add this extra peace of mind to your new heating and AC system.
Two UV Lights
If your furnace or air handler will accommodate a second UV Light, it can be placed on the other side of the air conditioner coil. Two UV lights minimize the shadows in your system so mold and germs have fewer places to hide.

Things to consider with UV Lights:

Ultraviolet light bulbs should be changed every one to two years or as suggested by the manufacturer.
Also, Ultraviolet light can be harmful to plastics and other materials that are not intended for UV light exposure. This may limit the number of suitable locations for UV lights in your system.
